I am a political junky. Greatest sport ever. The “field” of ideas. What troubles me in my review of the democratic candidates is they all share three main themes.
1. Raise Taxes: I do not understand why taking money from people will help the economy? Review the State of Michigan’s recession with a 7% unemployment rate right after the democratic governor raised taxes? I understand the Dems couch this as, “tax the wealthy”, but heck…who is wealthy? Seriously, tax cuts help us all. Why does the government need tax money, which is really “money I worked hard for”? I remember in the 90s when President Clinton raised taxes by taxing bonus money at 50%! At that time I had received an annual bonus…not much…and watched in shock as half was sent to the government. I was in awe. That was a small vacation for the fam disappear…to where? DC? I hope that nice lady who pushes the button for you in the Capital elevators enjoyed my bonus.
Another interesting concept of these particular Dems, (Edwards, Obama, and Hillary) are “stop corporate welfare.” This is code for “tax companies.” Next year we are faced with paying higher taxes that will equal the salaries we wanted to hire for marketing and accounting positions. Therefore, the Dems take from the corporation, give to the bureaucrats in DC, and don’t care that we couldn’t hire real people that probably voted for them! Yikes….
I have a great idea if I was President. For companies who take their profits and can prove they are using the profits to put people to work, and invest in growth (to put people to work) they will NOT pay taxes on the profits. BUT the portion that goes to line the pockets of the owners and CEOs would be taxed.
2. Universal Health Care: Everyone gets covered in Hillary’s plan including 12 million illegal immigrants who get free health care now just by showing up at an emergency room, and this “free access” has closed 12 hospitals in S California, and more are expected to close! BTW, the loss of the free market health care system will create a job loss in the millions! http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0NUZ/is_11_11/ai_n7070302
Obama is a bit more balanced in his approach, and Edwards, well… he wants to cover everyone too. But at what cost? The government is typically not as efficient as the private sector, and thus we can expect very high premiums and this equals taxes!
I am helping the Republicans in WI craft legislation in the Massachusetts style using section 125 to lessen the cost, and employers paying into a fund (details are being framed). I would like to see smaller co pays for the indigent, and the states covering the high deductible plans or heck stretch Medicare over everyone, and let the private sector buy med sups. Moreover, regarding the government running health care…anyone remember Katrina?
3. IRAQ: Ok… we can all agree…the war was idiotic. Bush was a cowboy. Nevertheless, we are there, and winning, and the the media is not covering the war? Ric theory- because only news that is “bad” is considered worth reporting. Good news is technically not news… I guess <shrug>. Charles Peters of Newsweek blasts his liberal colleagues for not reporting the good news. Here is the article: http://www.newsweek.com/id/72030 Great read.
All of the candidates have said they would immediately or “as soon as possible” leave IRAQ. My question is “ok we are there, but heck…why not finish the job, and not waste the sacrifice of our troops?” Second, if we leave (reference Vietnam) and a vacuum is created, such that the Al Qaeda’s of the world attempt to place a radical Islamic government within the vacuum what will happen to the women? They will again be enslaved, and treated like property. Does anyone remember Afghanistan? I hope that…if a Dem is elected, they will be smart about leaving.
I am preparing a review of the Republicans, which won’t be easy. They are all over the board on their beliefs! Help us Super Tuesday!!!!
